University of Sydney scientists say they have developed a new technology that could make Internet 60 times faster and give users unlimited, error-free access anywhere in the world. And all this at no extra cost.
Lead researcher Ben Eggleton while making the announcement said, initial testing of the technology showed it was possible to achieve Internet speeds 60 times faster than the current Telstra network. But if developed further, the circuit could reach speeds 100 times faster, he added. |

Sophos says that it discovered a new infected Web page every 5 seconds. In 2007, the company says, it saw new infected Web pages every 14 seconds.

The rate at which Internet security company Sophos detected infected Web pages nearly tripled in the first quarter of 2008, the company said.
In its Q1 08 threat report released Monday, Sophos says that it discovered a new infected Web page every 5 seconds. In 2007, the company says, it saw new infected Web pages every 14 seconds.
"The Web continues to be the preferred way for malware authors to deliver their attacks," the report says. |

Google has set up alliances to support new and open handset platform with mobile players. About 33 players in the mobile phone business have joined Google’s initiative to create a new software platform for Internet-friendly phones sending ripples through the Indian Web based development companies. The Open Handset Alliance will support Google’s Android platform for mobile devices. The new platform jargon for the software will fuel the phone and its various functions has the support of handset makers like Motorola and Samsung; mobile service providers like Sprint, NTT Docomo and China Telecom; chip makers like Intel and Texas Instruments; and pure Internet players like ebay and Skype.

Wireless networking is about to get a whole lot faster. While it may only seem not long ago since the last super speed upgrade in Wi-Fi networking technology--the move from 10-megabit 802.11b to 54-megabit 802.11g--the people at the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers are at it again. They're already cooking up a new standard they intend to call 802.11n, which will push the transmission speeds to between 100 and 150 megabits per second. And though the standard isn't yet fully ready companies are already starting to bring products to market that use what some expect to be the basic technology underpinning the shift. Belkin Corp., using designs from a Silicon Valley startup called Airgo Networks, are the first to do it. |

FRANKFURT: The 58th annual frankfurt book fair turns the spotlight on indian literature this year, the highlight of the event that has attracted exhibitors from some 100 countries. some 7,000 exhibitors are expected this year for the fair,the world's oldest, which runs october 4 to 8,said director Juergen Boos on Thursday. Indian authors including Vikram Seth and Amitav Ghosh are expected to be there, said Nuzhat Hassan,who is organizing the special exhibit this year. Some 150 indian publishers will attend. Besides reading from indian authors,the fair will include films,exhibits and indian food, to provide insights into contemporary indian culture.
Mr.Boos said the number of Asian publishers is high this year.many Latin-American and Southeastern European publishing houses will also attend. Last year's fair had more than 7,220 exhibitors.

A solar-powered boat manufactured in The netherlands made its maiden cruise in Asian waters from chennai port (madras) on Friday. Launching the solar powered boat,manufactured by Delft university, The Netherlands, Karien van Gennip, The Netherlands Minister for Foreign Trade,said 20 students of the University had set a milestone in maritime technology by manufacturing the solar-powered boat, Which would be an answer to conventional energy sources,which were pollution-free. The country was ready to share its technology with other countries, especially india. Later the Minister took a ride in the boat for about 20 minutes. Chennai port Chairman K.Suresh,presiding over the launch,said these boats could be used for attracting tourists. |
